We are "Reimagining our Library" and the project is finally beginning! Installation of the new kitchenette by Larry Eaton will start in January. New wall colors are being done by Melissa Greene and we love the choices. Librarians have been busy relocating books, magazines and computers to allow for the painting and construction. The project is made possible thanks to a $10,000 grant award from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, funding from the Friends of the New Salem Public Library and a special donation from the Franklin-Worcester Grange. We thank the patrons for their patience as we move forward with this exciting phase of reimagining our library!
Design—Creativity--Flexibility All these ideas are coming together on the Reimagining our Library committee.Formed in the spring in answer to a need for more flexible space, especially a community area for programs and activities, and more pleasing sight lines, the committee has been working hard to redesign the various areas of the library.
In October the committee, spearheaded by Lisa Finestone, wrote a grant applying for funds from the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts for a small kitchenette, new flooring, and flexible tables for a new community space. Grant awards will be announced in December.
The committee continues to work with Tucker Library Interiors to redesign the interior of the library. The Friends has underwrittenthe cost of the design partlywith money raised through the spring fundraiser Valley Gives. The committee is made up of library trustees, members of the Friends, and library patrons. For further information, contact Monica Winters, chair of the committee, at [email protected]
